  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2010 - Each month, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) showcases a film star and airs many of their films throughout the month. Twenty years after her death, Ava Gardner still resonates with fans and film buffs alike, and for the month of November 2010, TCM has chosen Ava Gardner to be the Star of the Month.

Throughout her 44-year career, Ava appeared in over 60 films. Arriving in Hollywood in 1941, Ava performed in 25 films before starring in The Killers, the film that would launch her to international stardom. During November, TCM will be showing a large number of these films from Ava's early career, many in which she played small bit parts as she worked her way up the MGM ladder. These titles include This Time for Keeps (1942), in which she's a woman eating in her car at a drive-in, and Kid Glove Killer (1942), in which she's a carhop. Calling Dr. Gillespie (1942), Lost Angel (1943), and Hitler's Madmen (1943) are a few more of the films being shown with brief glimpses of a young Ava. Many of these film titles, which are not available for purchase, will be a rare chance to see Ava before she was a star.

Better known Ava films will also be shown, including The Bribe (1949), Show Boat (1951), The Barefoot Contessa (1954), Bhowani Junction (1956), On the Beach (1959), and Seven Days in May (1964). All told, over three dozen Ava Gardner films will be shown on Thursdays and Fridays throughout the month. For the complete schedule, visit www.tcm.com or visit the Ava Gardner Museum for a printed schedule.

The Ava Gardner Museum is located in downtown Smithfield, at 325 E. Market Street and more information may be found on the museum website, www.avagardner.org or by calling 919-934-5830. The museum is open Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm with admission of $6.00 adults, $5.00 seniors and groups and $4.00 children.
