  • (1888PressRelease) September 25, 2015 - Hyderabad, September 24, 2015: SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF) and its co-hosts- Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), and Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB)inaugurated a "Hands-on Nextgen Sequencing & Bioinformatics Workshop" today at CCMB, Hyderabad. The workshop will run till 30th September 2015.

The work shop was inaugurated by Dr Ch Mohan Rao, the Director of CCMB.

Mr Sam Santhosh, the Managing Trusty of SGRF (SciGenom Research Foundation), a non-profit organization working to promote science in India through education and research and CEO of MedGenome, the leader in genomics-based diagnostics and research in India, addressed the participants of the workshop.

NGBT Conference is jointly organised by SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF) and its co-hosts- Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), and Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB)

"The conference is an ideal platform to promote scientific research and innovation" opines Mr Sam Santhosh" We have grown in scale over the years - both in content and participation - helping us to nurture the ecosystem faster and better". This year's meeting encompass twelve key note lecturers with a spectrum of expertise from Genomics to structural biology to plant genomics and oncogenic signalling.

This meeting will provide an ideal avenue for fostering ties between the academia and industry and serve to educate and inspire the next generation of scholars with lectures from stellar scientists coming from several parts of the world.
This is the Fifth edition of the international conference. The previous ones were at NIMHANS - Bangalore, IITM - Chennai, IGIB - Delhi and RGCB - Trivandrum. The 2014 NGBT at Bangalore saw participation from 500+ delegates with presentations from more than 80 speakers - international and national. Hyderabad, home to Genome Valley, India's first biotech cluster for biotech research, training, collaboration and manufacturing activities, and with an established presence of several global and Indian biotechnology companies, is expected to provide the most dynamic atmosphere for the conference proceedings.

"The aim of 2015 NGBT in creating a forum for sharing the current exciting developments in genomics and its application in human health, drug development, plant and animal sciences is well reflected in the interdisciplinary program and lineup of accomplished speakers. I wish 2015 NGBT a grand success"Prof. Aaron Ciechanover (Nobel laureate, 2004) in his message for the meeting.

The conference will further feature exciting developments in genomics technologies, and their applications in life sciences including human, plant and animal biology, drug discovery, clinical trials, and personalized therapy. The 3-day program will have speakers from renowned research institutes from across the globe. Some of the distinguished speakers at the meeting include Dr.Ch Mohan Rao, Director, CCMB, India, Prof. VineetaBal, India, Dr. Alfred Wittinghofer, Professor, Max Planck Institute, Germany, Prof. Dr.IvanDikic, Germany, Prof. ZvulunElzar, The Weizmann Institute of Science,Isreal, Prof. Thomas Sommer, MDC-Berlin, Germany, Dr. Stephan C Schuster, Professor, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Dr. Andrew Peterson, Sr. Director, Genentech Inc., USA, Dr. Ramprasad VL, COO, Medgenome Inc., Bangalore, India, Dr. K Thangaraj, Group Leader, Centre for Cell and Molecular Biology (CCMB), India, Dr. V Mohan, President & Director, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, India, Dr. Akhilesh Pandey, Professor, Johns Hopkins University, USA, Dr Stephen Turner, CTO, Pacific Biosciences, USA and Dr Sachdev Sidhu, University of Toronto, Canada. The conference will present an ecosystem for scientists and students to share their work, build new connections and explore collaborations.

"Idea is to highlight latest research work and advancements in the genomics space "Dr Sekar Seshagiri, 2015 NGBT Conference Chair"And provide opportunities for young scientists and researchers to interact and learn from thought leaders in life sciences and genomics"

Young scholars are encouraged to present their work as posters and an international panel of experts will judge their scholarship for awards sponsored by journals of repute including eLife, PLOS, FEBSJ and Journal of Cell Science. The conference will also feature a life sciences job fair in partnership with Monster, India, on Oct 1st 11am to 4pm. Young scientists will get an opportunity to obtain career advice as well as interact with prospective employers as part of this job fair.
