  • Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News, VA-NC (1888PressRelease) September 25, 2013 - Clark Nexsen is ranked number 11 on a list of the top 50 U.S. architecture firms. Most lists are revenue-based, but the Architect 50 evaluates firms across a broad range of categories. They consider net revenue per employee, profits invested in research, energy-efficient metrics related to sustainability, and other factors. To measure design excellence, they asked firms for the first time to submit project portfolios, and had a panel of judges score them.

"We are both proud and honored by this recognition," said Jeffrey Lee, FAIA, Design Director at Clark Nexsen. "It validates for us that in key sectors of practice, we are doing things successfully," Lee said.

The Architect 50 is published annually by ARCHITECT magazine, the official publication of the American Institute of Architects. Clark Nexsen jumped substantially from their 50th ranking in 2012, to 11th this year. The firm had strong scores in each of the three main categories: business, sustainability, and design excellence.

"We have had a terrific year," said Christopher Stone, PE, F.NSPE, F.ASCE, President of Clark Nexsen. "We attribute a large part of the success to our commitment to provide clients with exceptional design and professional services."

Clark Nexsen has grown in both size and capabilities following a 2011 merger with Technicon, a Georgia-based engineering firm, and more recently, with Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee, an architecture firm based in North Carolina. Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee was ranked 15th on the Architect 50 in 2012 and 23rd in 2011.

ARCHITECT magazine is a leading publication in the architecture and engineering Industry. It provides architecture news, market intelligence, business and technology solutions, continuing education, a building products database, and other architecture resources for the practicing architect.
