  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) November 12, 2010 - Robert M. Long, Senior Commissioning Technician for Farnsworth Group, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

Long, who holds an AS in Engineering Technology from Morrison Institute of Technology, followed by a BS in Construction Management from Illinois State University, began working in his industry in 1997 for a company called Custom Made Homes in Bloomington. But it wasn't long before he accepted a position at Farnsworth working in their surveying department.

After working in surveying for just over a year, Long was given the opportunity to work in the company's architectural department in July of 1998. After just over twelve years he was promoted seven times, starting as a technician and working his way up to architectural designer. But it wasn't until after he earned his bachelor's degree that he was able to branch out and expand in the marketing and business development aspect of the business. After transferring to the Shorewood office from Normal, Illinois, Long was offered the opportunity to work in their commissioning department. In August 2010, he became their senior commissioning technician.

As a technician, Long processes and reviews equipment submittals, sets up and manages project schedules, and develops equipment checklists to ensure proper installation per contract documents. He also reviews testing and balancing reports, functional performance testing, and communicates issues with project teams. "All my life I have been around working people that would not ask you to work any harder than they did," Long said. "That has been my philosophy that I bring to work with me every day."

Hoping to continue being a resource for his peers, Long recognizes that he has to maintain a grasp on all the new technologies and practices in his field to stay relevant. The ever-changing field keeps him on his toes and lives by the motto of working smarter, not harder. "My goal is to never stop climbing to new heights," he explained. "I am going to continually challenge myself to reach higher and not settle."

Long became a certified LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in 2009, which is administered through the Green Building Certification Institute. The LEED professional credentials were developed to encourage green building professionals to maintain and advance their knowledge and expertise. In his free time, Robert enjoys hunting, fishing, paintball, and all other outdoor activities. He is a strong supporter of Goodwill and local community food drives.
