  • Johnson City, TN (1888PressRelease) November 08, 2011 - Raejean Ann Harman, Choral Director for Virginia High School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Raejean Ann Harman's commitment to excellence in Education.

Harman, who holds a Master's Degree in Administration from Concord University, began as a special education aide and art teacher in 1990. She has since served as an itinerant art instructor and assistant band director before becoming a choral director.

Currently, Harman teaches a special education craft design class, ninth grade mixed choir, women's concert choir and an advanced choir class, known as the Chorale.

Although Harman's classes are A Cappella groups since she doesn't play the piano, she said that many directors consider her teaching method to be a more difficult classroom approach.

"I have found that students develop a more sensitive ear to overall chord structures, harmony and rhythmic patterns," Harman said in her defense of her technique. "A Cappella teaching also enables the groups to undertake and conquer more challenging music."

Inspired early in life to with the desire to teach music, Harman would possibly like to reach a higher professional level, with an eye toward becoming a principal in the future. In the meantime, she is comfortable continuing to teach and help students become the best they can be both as singers and as individuals.

Harman is a member of the National Association of Music Education, Virginia Education Association and Bristol Education Association. She's the recipient of numerous superior ratings at the state and district level in both band and choir. She has also earned a Virginia Honor Band, Blue Ribbon School of Music award, was named to 100 Best Communities in Music numerous times, and was also honored for mural work in Maxwell County Schools and Community. When Raejean isn't busy working, she enjoys sewing and art.
