  • (1888PressRelease) July 18, 2012 - Stuttgart is once again transforming itself into an outpost of India - for one week, at least. From 16th - 22nd July, the capital of the German state Baden-Wurttemberg is playing host to the 'Indian Summer' festival, which will showcase a whole range of events inspired by the Indian subcontinent. At the heart of the proceedings will be the 9th Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, where more than 50 of the latest film productions from around India will hit screens.

The driving force behind the 'Indian Summer' festival is Andreas Lapp, who is Chairman of the Board of Lapp Holding AG and has held the position of Honorary Consul of India for Baden-Wurttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate for twelve years now. He has made it his mission to forge links between Germany and India by hosting events like this. "We want to inspire people coming to the festival and let them experience just a hint of the allure and energy that India has to offer", he explains.

Stuttgart's LAPP GROUP is the main sponsor of the film festival. In addition to the film showings themselves, there will also be an appealing range of fringe events taking place, including the exhibition that will kick off the 'Indian Summer' programme on 16th July, 'Indische Begegnungen 2012' ('Indian Encounters 2012'). Being held in the Lapp Center in Stuttgart's Vaihingen district (Oskar-Lapp-Strasse 2), this event will showcase interpretations of India by artists Purva Ahire and Poonam Choudhry. Honorary Consul Andreas Lapp will open the exhibition.

Other highlights of the 'Indian Summer' include a seminar about Indian etiquette, titled 'Götter, Handys und Geschäfte' ('Gods, Mobiles and Business'), an Indian evening of Bollywood songs and dance, the 'Global Impressions' exhibition in Stuttgart's Linden-Museum, a classroom event for school pupils, plus tea talks and dance workshops.
