  • Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN-WI (1888PressRelease) June 10, 2011 - Sara Ward, Special Education Teacher for Anoka Middle School for the Arts, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Sara Ward's commitment to excellence in Education.

    Ward, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Bemidji State University and is currently working on her thesis for her Master's Degree in Education from Bethel University, just officially began teaching this year.

    Now licensed in Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and Emotional Behavioral Disorders (E/BD), Ward is teaching as a sixth grade special education teacher. During the 2010-11 scjpp; year she taught two special education mathematics classes and two organizational skills classes, in addition to supporting a regular education social studies class. She is a case manager to twenty students, helping keep track of the goals and objectives they are working on based on their academic, functional and social and emotional needs in a school setting. Ward is also part of the IEP team, comprised of the student, their parents, teachers, administrators and any other support staff involved in their education.

    "I picked education to make a difference in the lives of the students with whom I work," Ward said proudly about her new profession. "I believe that every child should have the opportunity to get a good education and I wanted to learn how to be the best teacher I could."

    Ward eventually wants to go back to school for an administrators license after completing her thesis and gets another license in reading. In the meantime, she plans to continue to work hard in her new position as well as work to make the lives of her students and the staff she works with better every day.

    A member of the National Education Association and Education Minnesota, Ward also volunteers with Special Olympics, Feed My Starving Children, her youth group, and also enjoys travelling, reading and running in her free time.
