  • Riverside-San Bernardino, CA (1888PressRelease) June 14, 2011 - Heather Larsen, Resource Specialist Educator at River Springs Charter Schools, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Heather Larsen's commitment to excellence in Education.

Larsen, who holds a BA in Liberal Studies from California State University-Fullerton and a MA Degree in Special Education from Point Loma Nazarene University, is a certified reading and special education teacher with three years experience in the field.

In her current role, Larsen is responsible for making sure that all students on her caseload make their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals. Their goals, which range from reading, writing and math, are taught in a manner that is as fun as possible, but also with important strategies that support them both in school and with their homework.

More recently, Larsen founded Reach for the Stars Tutoring, a private tutoring service that helps students that need individualized, one-on-one instruction from kindergarten through grade twelve. The organization also helps with homework and test preparation.

"I realized that my students needed more one-one-one attention in reading, writing and math," Larsen said about her new business. "Everywhere else they went it was small group instruction, with some groups as large as three or four. I wanted to provide them with the targeted and individualized attention they need and deserve."

Planning to go back to school to earn her doctorate degree in education with an emphasis in reading, Larsen wants to gain knowledge of programs and assessments that have been a proven success for students so that she can incorporate them into her classroom as well as her business.

Larsen is a member of Special Edge. She also received a Parent Recognition Award from the West End SELPA in San Bernardino for her hard work, dedication and support given to students. When Heather isn't busy teaching or tutoring, she enjoys practicing the art of photography, cross-stitch and reading.
