  • (1888PressRelease) November 19, 2010 - Zarafa, the new groupware standard in the still growing European Linux server market, today announced that its open source email and calendar software has reached the next level in secure mobile communications. The Zarafa Collaboration Platform (ZCP) is the only open source groupware solution which now is fully compatible with the German SiMKo 2 standard from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Brian Joseph, CEO of Zarafa: "Our focus will remain strongly on software developments and innovations in open source technology and mobile compatibility. This enables Zarafa partners to deliver enterprise class groupware systems to organizations that require the SiMKo 2 standard amongst others. Our new S/MIME WebAccess plugin will meet the requirements of organizations for more secure data communications. We are confident that this will stimulate the adoption of the Zarafa Collaboration Platform by European public organizations".

    SiMKo 2 support
The solution SiMKo 2 is an abbreviation of the German term "sichere Mobile Kommunikation" (secure mobile communications). This solution includes a special smartphone from HTC and makes mobile data communications more secure.According to the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), this solution is particularly suitable for use within the framework of the VS-NfD security level (classified material - for official use only). This complies with the special requirements of security-critical agencies of the Federal Government and industrial companies. In principle, SiMKo operates in encrypted format and with a "digital identity", i.e. certificates issued by a trust center. Each connection is secured through a VPN tunnel. SiMKo 2 is a service of T-Systems which is a part of Deutsche Telekom.

    Zarafa WebAccess S/MIME plugin
The new Zarafa WebAccess S/MIME plugin allows FireFox users to send encrypted and signed emails, and read incoming encrypted emails. It also allows checking senders' signatures in incoming signed messages. The S/MIME plugin requires use of FireFox as a browser on Windows and Linux desktops, and ZCP 6.40.X. After installing, users can simply click on the 'encrypt' and 'sign' icons in the new mail dialogs.
