  • Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) August 23, 2014 - The Posa-Cut Corporation, a leading manufacturer of metal cutting tools and cutting tool systems, celebrates 55 years of serving the metal working industry with high-quality, precision cutting tool solutions.

In 1959 the Carbide Tool Company, a prominent manufacturer of brazed construction carbide tools, founded Posa-Cut to manufacture innovative tooling solutions using replaceable and indexable inserts held in tool shanks. Initially produced for turning and milling applications, Posa-Cut soon expanded its manufacturing capabilities to include grooving and threading through the Posa-Lok and Posa-Cam product lines.

"We are proud of the positive impact Posa-Cut has had on the metal working industry for 55 years," said Kevin O'Brien, President, Posa-Cut. "Posa-Cut has successfully evolved alongside our customers to provide the most contemporary tooling solutions available while setting standards for quality, performance and cost-efficiency."

During the 1960s and 1970s Posa-Cut experienced substantial growth in both its physical presence and workforce. The company expanded beyond a small rented facility located at Nine Mile and Tuck Roads in Farmington, MI to its larger, current facility on Haggerty Road in Farmington Hills, MI. During this time Posa-Cut increased sales outreach to include new industries, "most notably, farming, heavy equipment and automotive," O'Brien said.

As Posa-Cut grew in its capacity to serve more industries it became necessary to increase the workforce. "We added many great, highly trained employees to accommodate the increase in work flow - most of whom are either still with Posa-Cut or retired from Posa-Cut," O'Brien said.

In the early 1980s Posa-Cut added wire-EDM to its manufacturing capabilities, a manufacturing process that can cut electronically conductive material without contact, burr free. "With the addition of wire-EDM Posa-Cut began offering flat form carbide inserted tooling, such as the Double-Datum design, to the precision manufactured parts industry for quick part changes," O'Brien said.

Posa-Cut increased manufacturing capabilities again in the 1990s by adding tooling designs for secondary machining operations in the cold heading industry on Towa and Brown & Sharpe machines.

Tolerance requirements in the medical and aerospace industries encouraged Posa-Cut to invest in 5 Axis CNC grinders in the 2000s and 2010s. "With the manufacturing technologies of conventional grinding, Wire EDM and now 5 Axis CNC, Posa-Cut produces high tolerance tooling at competitive prices," O'Brien said.

Posa-Cut provides cutting tool solutions to global customers including the US, Mexico and Canada.

Over the years the original shareholders have sold or willed their stock and today Posa-Cut is owned and operated by the O'Brien family. "As Posa-Cut moves forward from 55 years we will maintain our investment in people and equipment to continue to satisfy our growing customer base," O'Brien said.

Posa-Cut combines the expertise of engineering, purchasing, sales and production to ensure products are designed and manufactured to the highest quality and cost-efficiency standards. Posa-Cut's innovative product design and contemporary cutting tool solutions enable the metal working industry to achieve greater productivity and profit.
Posa-Cut serves the metal working industry with standard and special carbide metal cutting tools, carbide cutting tool systems, form tools, tool holders, carbide grooving & threading inserts and wear parts. Product lines include Posa-Form Tooling, Double-Datum Tooling, Special Grooving & Threading Carbide Inserts, Standard Grooving & Threading Carbide Inserts and Wear Parts.

Posa-Cut has satisfied the demands of many formal quality programs including Q1. Posa-Cut is ISO 9001:2008 registered and considered QS9000 compliant. For further information regarding the Posa-Cut Corporation: 800-966-POSA or www.posacut.com.
