Encinitas-based Class-ACT, is pleased to announce that its founder and Executive Director Niels Lund has won the prestigious 10News Leadership Award. An on-air segment honoring Mr. Lund will air during the 6 PM News on Thursday, January 14, 2010.
(1888PressRelease) January 15, 2010 - In 1998, Niels Lund saw a need in the local schools when music budgets were slashed. He left his music career, raised funds from local businesses, and started putting curriculum-based art and technology classes into San Diego area schools. Class-Act has served thousands of students in these 12 years.
The focus of his endeavor expanded two years ago with the addition of an international component, where children in local schools exchange art with children in developing countries, a "Children's Global Art Exchange". This started with drawings and puppets being exchanged, and most recently involved a photography project that included a trip to Cambodia where photographer Jessica Wawrzyniak provided the same photography classes to developing world children, that she had provided to children in Encinitas and Carlsbad. An exhibition from this trip will be displayed at Encinitas City Hall from October 18 - November 29, 2010.
With its new mandate Class-ACT now provides local children with not only quality art programming, but also allows them to develop a sense of global responsibility toward children in other parts of the world and in doing so, the chance to grow as individuals and as committed citizens. More local classes are in progress and more countries are in the works, as the Children's Global Art Exchange expands.
Anyone who would like to participate in Class-ACT's new mission of providing a Children's Global Art Exchange, can help by calling Niels Lund, Executive Director of Class-ACT, at (760) 436-3729, or find out more from their website http://www.ClassActArts.org.
