LIC-Ladies in Charge of their Own Destiny Incorporated was founded in March of 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia by Charlene Lester-Allen for the sole purpose of EMPOWERING AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN FOR INFINITE SUCCESS.
Mission
The mission of Ladies in Charge of their Own Destiny Incorporated is to educate, motivate, lead, and empower African-American Women. Ladies in Charge of their Own Destiny Incorporated fulfills this purpose through 9 programs that combat the epidemics of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, health and nutrition, and financial illiteracy as it relates to African-American Women, while simultaneously advocating and expanding the mission to promote the concept of sisterhood, the advancement of education for African-American Women, and training/mentoring of young African-American Women ages 12-18 via the Young Divas of Destiny Nationwide Program.
Issues such as domestic violence, the increasing number of African-American women with positive results for HIV/AIDS, mental illness such as depression and increased rates of suicide as it relates to African-American Women, epidemic health issues such as diabetes, lupus, obesity, and cardiovascular disease are at the forefront of the 9 programs designed specifically for African-American Women. Education is also a cornerstone essential to the nonprofit- LIC Inc. and a scholarship has been implemented to assist African-American women with educational aspirations and endeavors entitled the LIC Scholarship. LIC Inc. also has a program that is totally dedicated to the younger generation of Ladies in Charge entitled Young Divas of Destiny. Young Divas of Destiny is a training and mentoring program to educate, inspire, and motivate young African-American Women to simply-Be The Best!!! The unique component of the national nonprofit LIC-Ladies in Charge of their Own Destiny Inc. is the inclusiveness of a national coalition of African-American Women who serve as a network of professionals.
