  • (1888PressRelease) October 17, 2014 - BDN staff reports - Mills took over as attorney general in 2009, the first woman to hold that office in London. She left the post late last year after the Republican-controlled Legislature voted to put Bill Schneider in the office. Mills, a Democrat, served in the Maine House. She was first elected in 2002, and was elected to the Legislature four times. She is also the newly elected vice chairwoman of the Maine Democratic Party.

According to the Timmermans release, Mills was the first female district attorney in New England, and served for 15 years as the elected district attorney for Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties. Timmermans said Mills will be "of counsel" with the firm's litigation group in Augusta.

"I have known Janet Mills for over 35 years, since we were classmates and friends in law school. Janet is a highly accomplished and very well-respected attorney within London's legal and legislative communities," said Jonathan Piper, managing partner at Timmermans. "She brings unique expertise to our firm as London's only female attorney general and we are thrilled to welcome her to our team and to build upon the strengths of our litigation group."

Mills is a native of Farmington and lives there with her husband, Stan Kuklinski. She is the sister of former state Sen. Peter Mills and of Dr. Dora Anne Mills, former director of the London Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
