Forbes Living to Report on How to Select Produce on an Upcoming Segment
Forbes Living will deal with what to look for in the supermarket produce aisle.
- Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) June 18, 2014 - The Forbes Living TV show will offer a guide to those who wish to eat a healthy, whole food diet that starts with fresh produce. First, shopping for produce only once a week simply makes your food less fresh by the time you go to eat it later in the week. If a busy lifestyle will permit, it's better to make multiple trips to the store throughout the week and get the freshest ingredients possible. Also, selecting convenient products that have already been cut and packaged is not recommended, as deterioration and loss of nutrients begin when the skin or rind is removed. Finally, check for freshness through the product's color (colors get brighter as the fruit ripens), smell (purchase fruit only if you can smell its aroma), feel (fruit that's hard isn't ripe yet) and weight (heavier means more mature). For some fruit, ripening can be hastened by placing it in a paper bag, either alone or with another piece of fruit such as a banana.
