  • (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - What does your culture mean to our community? That's the question we're posing to the Valley's creative residents. It's the "My Culture/Our Community" video contest.

ValleyPBS byYou and Valley Cultural Coalition (VCC) are pleased to present this video contest celebrating the Valley's rich cultural diversity. Three cash awards will be provided for the top-three best video submissions answering the question: "What does your culture mean to our community?"

The purpose of this contest is to highlight and honor our region's cultural diversity (traditions, artistic expressions, music, food, etc.), while involving creative individuals in the production of locally relevant video content. "As the Valley's Stage for the Arts, ValleyPBS is pleased to join VCC as partners in this video contest to showcase local talent and highlight the diverse cultures that make our Valley unique," says Paula Castadio, CEO of ValleyPBS.

Jen Paul Schroer, Chair of VCC adds "ValleyPBS is a natural partner and celebrating the diversity of our area is one of the Valley Cultural Coalition's primary goals. We are excited to announce the winners at the VCC Annual Conference, October19, 2012."

One grand prize winner will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000 at the VCC Annual Conference on October 19, 2012. The winning video will premiere at the conference, air on ValleyPBS and be streamed online at ValleyPBS byYou, a new online video hub featuring content BY the Valley FOR the Valley launched by ValleyPBS in June. Two runners up will each be awarded a cash prize of $250. Those videos will also be shown at the conference, air on ValleyPBS and be available on ValleyPBS byYou.

The contest is open to Central Valley residents from Merced to Kern counties from July 13 to September 28, 2012. Winners will be announced October 12, 2012. Visit valleypbs.org/byYouContest to review the contest guidelines, complete the entry form and upload videos. Entries must be no more than 60 seconds in length and can only be accepted via the website. Contest guidelines are available in print at ValleyPBS, 1544 Van Ness Ave., Fresno, CA 93721.
