  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2011 - The Bra Recyclers, a textile recycling company based in Gilbert, Arizona, recently extended support to The Healing Place of Wake County, located in Raleigh. The Bra Recyclers were able to establish this partnership in October during the company's annual Bra Recycling Month event.

The Healing Place offers recovery and rehabilitation services to homeless, alcoholic and chemically dependent men. Approximately 75 homeless women are housed at The Healing Place each night. The Healing Place staff member, Terri Conyers, touched on the need for recycled bras to help serve women at their facility. "Many of these women arrive with the clothes on their backs. Recycled bras will provide basic human entitlement to these women and also provide hope that someone really cares and they may continue with their recovery process. We have every shape and size woman, but we are mostly in need of larger sizes," Conyers stated.

The Bra Recyclers aim to provide women and girls in need with the bra they need to feel encouraged, beautiful and confident during their most desperate hours. Touching on the environmental and social benefits of recycling gently used bras, Birks-Mitchell stated, "Having clean and properly fitted bra to wear is not usually at the top of the list for women and girls in need due to other priorities, such as food, shelter, and safety. We want to do our part by providing a simple encouragement that will lift a woman's spirit, boost her self esteem, and ultimately help re-shape a life. Not only are we able to provide this important gift at the time of need, but bra recycling also helps delay the number of textiles entering the waste stream."
