  • (1888PressRelease) April 12, 2017 - Since the US Army's Combat Vehicle Modernization was approved two years ago, much progress has been made. This year, General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) will start to deliver the first production M1A2 SEP v.3 Abrams to the U.S. Army. Out of a total of nine prototypes built, the company has delivered seven prototype tanks for field-testing.*

    Lieutenant Colonel Amado Sanchez will be giving an evaluation of trends in the current operational environment and projection of effects in the future and will explain the key areas prioritised for development to counter hostiles near peer status as well as discuss plans for collaboration with procurement to fill capability gaps.

    Colonel Mike Smith's presentation will focus on operational requirements to deliver more capability in smaller packages to a formation as well as looking at lethal and non-lethal options in both manned and unmanned systems to deliver formation effects. Incorporating public-private partnerships and developing system-level Prototypes to soldiers for realistic assessment will also be discussed.

    Colonel Jim Jenkins will give an overview of the USMC's Unmanned Tactical Autonomous Control and Collaboration Program and explore problems associated with traditional man in the loop systems that require direct control. He will examine United State Marine Corp's goal of striving toward an integrated autonomous systems that can work alongside and support the warfighter and talk about potential implications for targeting/lethality and the boosting of combat effectiveness.

    Lastly, Dr Jeffrey Zabinski will deliver an overview of the focus of the ARL Survivability/Lethality Directorate. Combat systems analyses and modeling analysis support for development of enhanced lethality will be explored. In addition, he will produce a current analyses of MUVES-S2 and development palns of the next generation SLV model MUVES 3
