Ohio Father Uses Twitter To Raise Funds For Son To Compete In Junior Olympics

Columbus, OH (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - Maurice Carreker, son of Larry and Shell Carreker, is a young athlete from Ohio, who has qualified to compete at the 46th USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships, in Baltimore, Maryland. Proud father, Larry Carreker, is using the social media platform Twitter to enlist supporters of the Ohio Community to help him raise the funds Carreker needs to partake in this epic event.

8 year old Maurice, has trained through chest pains and migraine type of headaches all summer. Through pain and sickness, he persevered and has qualified to compete in the 1500 meter run and the Shot Put. As the most visible athletic development program for youth in the world, many of today's Olympic stars began their careers competing in this championship.

"An opportunity like this could do more than encourage and motivate Maurice," said Larry Carreker, "It will encourage and motivate the kids that look up to him."

Maurice is a great big brother to his 10 month old brother, he is a high achiever academically and a model scholar to all students. Not only does Maurice consistently remain on the Honor roll, but for the second year in a row, this year Maurice has earned Wilson Award which is the highest honor a student receives at Avalon elementary. He has worked very hard throughout the summer and has accomplished so much and truly deserves this opportunity.

In order to get Maurice to this epic event, he and his family must cover all travel expenses, lodging, entry fees and food. Mr. Carreker is humbly tweeting and asking for donations from his family, friends and the Ohio community, to help send his son to Baltimore.
