Nigerian Institute of Management Unveils Plan For 50 Years Anniversary And 2011 Management Conference

  • (1888PressRelease) May 24, 2011 - The President/Chairman of Council of the Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered), Dr. (Mrs.) Sally Nkem Adukwu-Bolujoko, FMIN, made this assertion at a media briefing held in Lagos to herald the 50th anniversary celebration of the institute. "The Institute is poised more than ever before to do more in the coming years towards the advancement of the management profession in Nigeria" she declared.

    Speaking further, Dr. Adukwu-Bolujoko asserted that the Institute will not relent in its quest to bequeath a well trained and productive work force on the nation as well as making sure that corruption and other social vices which hampered Nigeria's development are completely exterminated from the body polity.

    On the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Institute, the President disclosed that the jubilee conference will come up between 25 - 28 September this year with a paper to be presented by Nobel Laurate, Prof. Wole Soyinka on the theme "Governance in the 21st Century Nigeria". She also disclosed that the conference will be declared opened by President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR, adding that the anniversary will witness series of brainstorming sessions on how to move the nation forward.

    "The 50th anniversary provides the Institute yet another opportunity to rebrand, relaunch and reposition itself for better performance and service delivery in the years ahead" and we will not relent on this, coming years will witness a new dawn in the history of the NIM" the President Declared.

    Speaking on the achievement of the Institute in the last 50th years, the President said that the Institute has been in the forefront of filling the nation's need with well-trained professional managers in both the public and private sectors of the economy through its learning and training programmes. "The institute has membership strength of over 140,000" she declared.

    Dr. Adukwu-Bolujoko also used that occasion to pay tribute the first president of the Institute, Dr. Christopher Abebe (CNIM) and other founding fathers who worked relentlessly and assiduously not only to establish the Institute but also etched its ideals and tenets in the psyche and consciousness of Nigerians.
    The Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered), was established in 1961 and subsequently became Chartered in 2003 by the ACT of the National Assembly. The charter empowered the NIM among other functions to regulate and control the profession of management in all its aspects and ramifications in Nigeria.
