  • (1888PressRelease) December 03, 2012 - Mike Christopher, best known as the Hare Krishna zombie from the original Dawnof the Dead will be a featured guest on The Jimmy Star Show live radio show hosted by King of Cool, Jimmy Star along with his Cool Crowd of cohosts to discuss his movies, career and the entertainment industries at large. Mike Christopher is better known as the Hare Krishna devotee who was turned into a zombie by George Romero to play a lead zombie role in "Dawn Of The Dead" (((1978) the real one)) with slow zombies.))) Born in Pittsburgh, Michael was playing synthesizer for a theatrical rock band named "FLUID" and already had a bald head prior to getting selected for this role.

For those who don't know; the Hare Krishna Zombie character is seen walking in a shopping mall where the main characters have taken refuge. He just happens to be part of small group of zombies blocking the path of the leading male characters who are just beginning to search the mall for supplies. They decide to run thru the small school of zombies who were typically exhibiting a slow stagger to their shambling.

Excited by their success, they fail to notice that the Hare Krishna character did not turn to follow them like the others. The zombie finds the entrance to their lair then shambles down the hallway toward the stair well. The men go on a shopping spree completely unaware that their security has been compromised. The zombie climbs the stairs. Fran, the leading actress is all alone in the hideout. She hears the zombie on the stairs . . . while the shopping spree continues. Alone and without weapons Fran stacks boxes of emergency rations against the door which has no lock. The zombie pushes open the door, the zombie crosses the room and knocks over a stack of boxes in his attempt to reach Fran who lights a road flare which the zombie knocks from her hand. in a last ditch attempt to keep from being bitten Fran attempts to climb a ladder to the roof at which point the guys arrive. The zombie is finally put away with a resounding strike to the cranium and Fran is safe at last.

Shortly after filming Dawn of the Dead Michael left Pittsburgh for Los Angeles and performed laser light shows for Laserium and Laser Media. He was involved with colorizing black and white movies for Turner at Color Systems Technology and spent many years in Quality Assurance for Oberheim and Kurzweil electronic music instruments then for Digital Videotape Mastering in the Los Angeles area.

Moving to Florida in 1996 he was primarily occupied a graphic Artist thru 2007 when NECA came out with an Action Figure of his character. As luck would have it just about the same time, he was introduced to the Horror Convention circuit just in time for the 30th anniversary reunion of Dawn of the Dead. As luck would have it, he has since been invited to appear in a number of independent movies shooting in Florida including "The Uh-Oh Show," by Herschell Gordon Lewis, 2011 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1430505/ and his first lead role in "Joe Vampire" by Sean Donohue and Mayber "NICHE" Trujillo to be released in 2013.

For a bit more info please visit his IMDb page at: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2883012/ and take a look at the somewhat fictionalized bio written by a Dawn of the Dead fan . . . before Michael even knew he had an IMDb page.
