  • (1888PressRelease) October 10, 2011 - Drug firm Taj Pharmaceuticals today said it has received tentative approval from US health regulator to manufacture and sell Drug Oxycodone Tablets 5 to 30 mg to market in United kingdom and European Market, Oxycodone is a strong narcotic pain-reliever and cough suppressant similar to morphine, codeine, and hydrocodone.

    The precise mechanism of action is not known but may involve stimulation of opioid receptors in the brain. Oxycodone does not eliminate the sensation of pain but decreases discomfort by increasing tolerance to pain. In addition to tolerance to pain, oxycodone also causes sedation and respiratory depression. The FDA approved oxycodone in 1976. The Mumbai-based pharmaceuticals company has received a tentative approval for Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Drug Oxycodone Tablets 5 to 30 mg strength to market in United kingdom and European Market, Taj Pharmaceuticals India said in a statement.
    The drug is also said to be available in Oxycodone Tablets - controlled-release (CR) which is said to be used in for Cancer Pain.

    The drug is prepared and available in Tablets: 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 mg. Controlled release tablets: 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, and 160 mg.

    The usual starting dose using immediate release oxycodone tablets is 5 to 30 mg every 4 hours. Patients who have never received opioids should start with 5-15 mg every 4 to 6 hours. Some patients may require 30 mg or more every 4 hours.

    Shares of Taj Pharmaceuticals today closed at Rs 1678.50 on Bombay Stock Exchange, up 16.07 per cent from its previous close.
