  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) June 23, 2011 - In an industry where films and video projects abound, one does not often hear of an independent action film, for it is common knowledge that these types of films require several amenities other genres like drama do not. Creating precisely this type of film was the endeavor of the late independent filmmaker Spencer Lighte whose funeral was held June 8, 2011.

In his debut and, tragically, final project "Justice on the Border" Lighte wrote and directed a very ambitious film. "Justice" not only delivers the exhilarating entertainment expected of an action flick, but also deals with more important subjects - chief among these are violence against women in the U.S.-Mexico border and illegal immigration.

Although he was also the star actor in this last project, Spencer Lighte as filmmaker addresses these controversial subjects with a talented cast that voices several of the different opinions and backgrounds on these topics. "Justice on the Border" is the story of a Latina army ranger (Vanessa Herrera) who was kidnapped by a drug lord while in Mexico, and the two soldiers (played by Lighte and Pete Freeland) who go from Arizona to Sonora to rescue her, despite strict orders against the operation.

"Spencer was both a great instigator and invigorator," reminisces costar Pete Freeland. "He could get a tough project started, and then continue with enthusiasm and passion to promote his vision. This film was definitely the culmination of his lifelong commitment to film, and it's a tremendous legacy to leave to the rest of the world. He will be missed, but certainly not forgotten."

In the final stages now of post-production, the film will debut at several major film festivals around the country later this year, starting at the Naperville Film Festival in September 2011.
