  • (1888PressRelease) June 22, 2011 - Regular guests at The Anchorage B&B in Keswick took part in the annual challenging fell run known as The Bob Graham Round. What started in 1864 as a running ascent (and descent) of Scafell Pike, Scafell, Great End, Great Gable, Kirk Fell, Pillar & Steeple, Red Pike and Stirrup Crag has expanded over the years to become a run of 70 miles over 42 peaks in under 24 hours, as first achieved by Bob Graham in 1930.

Fell runners Matt and Vince are no strangers to challenging runs, having completed the Coast to Coast in May 2006 amongst others. Matt has written 2 books based on his experiences of fell running: Life on the Run: Coast to Coast and more recently Run Like Hell (both available on Amazon and in Keswick book shops, by Matt Beardshall). Along with the other runners they set off at 6pm on Friday from Moot Hall in Keswick (only 5 minutes walk from The Anchorage Guest House), returning there at 6pm Saturday, 70 miles and 42 peaks later!

Their support party was Andrea, Mal, Andy and Kieran who strategically placed themselves on various summits and fells with supplies of food and water and lots of encouragement.
Walkers arriving at the top of one mountain early Saturday morning were very surprised to find Mal already settled there on his deckchair reading!

Apparently the early sunrise was spectacular, the weather dry and even sunny at certain times of the day.

Breakfast at The Anchorage Guest House on Sunday morning was most welcome with much sharing of anecdotes and display of photos. A walk was planned for the rest of the day…
