Forgotten Chicago, along with the Silent Film Society of Chicago, the Portage Park Neighborhood Association, the Czech Legion Project and the Northwest Chicago Historical Society, announce an exhibition of the film "Accidental Army: The City That Created a Country"

Featured on the front pages of the Chicago Reader, and praised by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, "Accidental Army: The City That Created A Country" documents the improbable story of the Czech legions and recalls the often overlooked role that Chicago played in the founding of Czechoslovakia. Amidst the chaos of World War I and the Russian Revolution, seventy thousand Czech and Slovak prisoners of war switched sides and became the Czechoslovak Legion - an Allied army fighting for a country of their own - Czechoslovakia.

Admission is $8 online and $10 at the door. Tickets are also available for purchase at City News at Six Corners or the Portage Theater Box Office, or online at ForgottenChicago.com. Included with each ticket is one entry in a raffle with additional chances available for purchase. Information will also be available on the proposed Chopin Monument in Chicago. This screening is a joint fundraising effort and all proceeds will benefit the above listed organizations.

Forgotten Chicago is an organization that documents little known elements of Chicago's built environment and the regions' urban fabric with the idea that by exposing many of these often overlooked elements to a wider audience, this will result in more interest in their preservation.
