  • (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2011 - On any given day, a visitor to the Paramount School of Excellence can view sustainability in action. Dimitri Snowden, the designer and one of the school's co-founders, has worked creatively to ensure that students at the school learn as much as possible about sustainable living practices. The school features an alternative learning environment, where uniformed students learn skills that they can later put to use in the real world.

The carpeting and flooring in the school are made from recycled materials, the classroom environments feature iPads and SmartBoards networks, and the entire school is virtually paper free. In addition, the school has its own five wind turbine wind farm, allowing students to learn about alternative energy firsthand. The school is the first K-8 school charter school in the US to utilize a five wind turbine wind farm in this manner.

The school also features its own garden, giving students a chance to experience urban farming and learn about the growth cycle of plants. This garden allows urban students opportunities that they might not otherwise have, allowing them to develop practical skills in a controlled environment.

    About Dimitri Snowden

When he's not volunteering or improving his business, ion360, Dimitri Snowden spends his free time racing cars or polishing his Mixed Martial Arts skills. One of the martial arts that he's chosen to specialize in is Tae Kwon Do - the national sport of South Korea. This martial arts practice takes years of dedication, combining elements of spirituality and meditation with punching and kicking skills. Practitioners learn a series of punches, kicks, and movements which together make up a form. These forms are practiced to perfection, allowing students to build dedicated muscle memory, strength, and dexterity.

Dedicated martial artists spend a lifetime growing their skills, and Dimitri Snowden is no exception. He's spent ten years as a devoted student of Tae Kwon Do, working through numerous forms and practicing under a variety of skilled masters to hone his craft. Tae Kwon Do primarily focuses on self-defense, although some offensive techniques are taught as well, and is an excellent way to learn self-discipline while gaining strength and flexibility. The sport is perfect for lifetime learners and dedicated students, as there is always something new to learn, to practice, or to perfect.
