  • (1888PressRelease) June 22, 2018 - Democracy Earth Foundation (“Democracy.Earth,” “DEF”) has announced six inaugural student ambassadors entering the Democracy Earth Student Ambassador program: Robel Mulugueta (Yale University), Travis Bell (UC Berkeley), Samuel Eisner (UC Berkeley), Charles Thompson (Cornell University), Avital Balwit (University of Virginia), and Robinson Markus (Northwestern University.

All students accepted to the DEF Student Ambassador Program will participate in an eight-week learning initiative “Blockchain Governance Basics”, a peer-led training program to provide student ambassadors with a broad understanding of the technical, social, and political contexts for the Democracy Earth blockchain-based governance software platform Sovereign.

The DEF Student Ambassador Program is open to university students worldwide. The program is an extension of Democracy Earth Foundation’s successful Ambassador program launched in 2017 with inaugural ambassador Sunny Sangha (United Kingdom) delivering the highly regarded TEDx Brum (Birmingham) Talk, “Is a Fair, Global Democracy Possible?” The program has since added ambassadors in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Australia, Denmark, Uruguay, Brazil, the Netherlands and the United States.

“Universities are rich with micro-activism and decision-making, and in many ways present an ideal environment for innovative governance experiments, “ said Democracy Earth Student Ambassador Program Director Paula Berman.

With the launch of its Student Ambassador Program, Democracy Earth Foundation aims to create a global movement around liquid democracy, working with democracy activists at the university level. Berman calls the expansion of the DEF Ambassadors program to universities “a natural next step for the Foundation.”
