  • St. Louis, MO-IL (1888PressRelease) September 25, 2014 - Since 2011, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has overseen the Recognition Program which emphasizes patient-centered care in which a primary physician becomes "home" for all care. PCMH, or Patient-Centered Medical Home, will likely become the new model of health care and reimbursements. Medical practices, such as Fremont Family Care located in Fremont, Nebraska and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fremont Health, recently achieved Level 3 Recognition.

Curas, Inc., a St. Louis based healthcare IT firm specializing in eClinicalWorks EHR implementation, worked closely with Fremont Family Care throughout both their Meaningful Use Attestations and the PCMH Recognition Process. Level 3 is the highest Recognition a practice can achieve, with points awarded for factors such as patient access to their health record, identification and management of patient populations, practices for planning, tracking and managing patient care, and systems for reporting and measuring performance.

"Fremont Family Care has been committed to leveraging its eClinicalWorks system to enhance patient care and demonstrate excellence in their pursuit of PCMH Recognition," said Num Pisutha-Arnond, Managing Partner at Curas. "This is a model of providing and managing health care as it relates to all things, including working with all physicians involved in the patient's care, managing hospital visits, and even educating family members about the patient's condition."

PCMH is expected to directly impact the cost of care, and reimbursements to medical practices. A "home-base" management approach to patient care is expected to reduce duplication of services, allow health care providers to become more efficient, and provide better care by leveraging evidence-based medicine through analysis of the patient population to identify and prescribe medications that are working in that population.

"We're moving from a system of managing point-to-point visits to a system where we're truly managing overall health," said Pisutha-Arnond. "Systems and processes need to be put in place for this model, and Curas was able to work with Fremont identify and design the most appropriate workflows while implementing the eClinicalWorks modules and reports to help them achieve this high level of integration, and highest level of recognition for PCMH."

"Fremont Family Care, through its partnership with Curas, has achieved a major strategic initiative. It is becoming increasingly more important to demonstrate the quality of care that our physicians provide. With the designation of PCMH, we feel that this shows our patients that we are serious about providing the highest level of care in the most cost effective manner," said Ryan Bojanski, Administrator - Clinical Services at Fremont Health.
