Trim and Tone, an entertainment and utility app developed by Contus has won the award for the app with 'Best UI Design' from one of the esteemed app awards website bestmobileappawards.com.

Being one of Contus' long time app projects, Trim and Tone has underwent a series of version updates which has improvised and refined to meet the emerging tastes and requirements of smartphone users. As the result of the company's persistent efforts the app has now registered a prestigious place in the apps world by claiming the 'Best UI Design' award.
Sharing the joy, Mr Bala Murugan, Creative Head of Contus (COO) said, "It is a moment to cherish and it always feels great to be rewarded for hard work." On coming up with the award winning design idea, he said, "In our opinion no design can be tailor made for winnings awards, rather sticking to the basics and conceptualizing design concepts based on user behavior and expectations is the key."
"Mobile applications, despite their high-end technicalities, tend to fail in the market due to a poor interface and experience design. Users are more concerned about the ease of use and so we designed every pixel keeping users in mind," he added.
The application offers two different options to edit the ringtones namely the 'Markers' and 'Picker'. While the markers (start and end) can be used to drag and select the portion to be edited, the picker works on a value input system which requires the start and end time to be specified. Both these editing tools can be used simultaneously for editing precisely.
Tones can be mixed together as well, using the 'Tone Mixer' tool. Sans these two key functionalities the app holds a host of features for file sharing and managing. Sharing can be done through Bluetooth, Email and Whatsapp. Sound Cloud is an additional feature that lets user to manage and listen to songs wherever they go.
Saranya Jayaraman, the technical development brain behind this app mentioned that providing a silky smooth app using experience was equally challenging as the UI design. "Subtle animations that we made use for track loading, screen changeovers and screen splits helped us in delivering what we wanted to," she added. Apart from the editing and mixing functions the app has a variety of other features which complements the mainstream features.
When quipped about the experience working on this app, Vinod, the app's designer, opened up saying, "Smart placements of the features gave a better clarity for the app. The rule of thumb for a clean design is to have a clear navigation and provide only that is needed". "If your app doesn't confuse users, they will definitely explore every nook and corner of it", he added.
"Though we did not aim for an award while designing for the app, the accolade is very pleasing and encouraging as well. We are now focused on coming up with more such intuitive and simplistic design to add more to the delight of our target audience", said Mr Bala Murugan, hopefully.
