  • (1888PressRelease) October 03, 2013 - Atex (atex.com), a leading solutions provider to the global news media industry, is pleased to announce that the Atex Content Management platform is now live at Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso SpA, one of the largest and most prestigious media groups in Italy.

The innovative Atex Content platform powers the new web site for Espress.it (http://espresso.repubblica.it), which went live on September 30th. The same Atex editorial system is used by all the local daily newspapers of the Finegil group. Finegil includes 18 titles covering 10 Italian regions with more than 500 editors publishing news on all channels enriched with multimedia content, image galleries and videos, and managing story placement on numerous news and vertical microsites.

After launching the new Atex workflow, independent online statistics show a substantial boost in L'Espresso web traffic, averaging a 40% increase in unique visitors.

The next phase of the Atex project at Gruppo Espresso is the introduction of new mobile tools for reporters, including iPads and other tablet devices. The goal is to understand the opportunities inherent in these new tools, to provide journalists with the means to easily gather news, and most importantly to stream live news on the group web sites.

The new workflows are being tested by the editors at Il Tirreno. With 13 daily editions, Il Tirreno is historically one of the most respected local newspapers in Italy. Journalists have been equipped with tablets and are "live publishing" news from the field, with in-depth information that is captured most effectively in the field, and which is augmented with pictures, live video and candid interviews.

The benefits for local newspapers are paramount. These new Atex tools enable a direct link between the news, the editors and the readers with a freshness of information that was only possible for national news in the past.

After this initial phase of the Atex project, the new tools and workflows will be introduced in all the newsrooms of the Finegil group.

"All the major Italian editorial groups are working on similar projects," said Federico Marturano, CEO of Atex Italy. "But the vision of Gruppo Espresso gave us the possibility - as often happens with them - to be at the forefront of this process so that we can implement tools and workflows to help them remain one step ahead of their competition."
