  • St. Cloud, MN (1888PressRelease) February 06, 2012 - Park Rapids author and resident, Tarah L. Wolff, has published the first novel in her fantasy series Embraced by Darkness. Sacrifices is a novel based after the humans were finally able to claim their freedom. Picking up the pieces after slavery the rulers (known as Wards, blessed with the power of will) built an empire with their capital cities standing strong and their people safe. But now something red is lurking from the west, something that salivates after the utter power that once freed the humans.

Tarah L. Wolff has always been a huge fantasy fan and will be the first to admit that she wrote a book that she wanted to read and felt the genre was lacking. While there have been many fantasy epics released on the market today after the explosion of Harry Potter, the Twlight series, the Lord of the Rings and so many others, Sacrifices stands a part as being directed at a more mature audience. Graphic and unflinching, it is not a book for anyone expecting any less than realism and all the horror that sometimes follows. With lead female characters that stand impressively, not as the stereotypical females often seen in fantasy books, but as real women who sometimes make the wrong choices as often as they make the right ones. Join Jezaline, Osondrous and Karalay as they face the breaking of the Wards and the growing certainty that an ancient enemy is lying in wait for just one bad decision. Karalay has long been desperate for companionship, a healer, a scholar that has never known a life that included love, when she finds it, she abandons her place as a Ward to her people.

Jezaline is on the move, not even knowing for certain what she is looking for, an incident from her childhood (something she only admits as a nightmare) is calling louder and louder that it was nothing as simple as a rape. Osondrous, young, rash and a warlord since birth, steps up to run the guard, to protect the people. She stands in blind stubbornness, ignoring all warning signs as the red savage from the west breathes harder and harder down her neck.

The book is available through Amazon as a paperback ($15.00) or on the Kindle ($1.99) or from Barnes N Noble on the Nook ($1.99)
