  • (1888PressRelease) May 26, 2011 - As part of this year's Location Business Summit in Amsterdam, Wikitude announces the international expansion of Wikitude Drive. "In addition to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the world's first Augmented Reality navigation system is now available to millions of additional Android users in the UK, Italy, Spain and France" says Andy Gstoll, Wikitude's CMO at the Locations Business Summit in Amsterdam. The award-winning application does not need any maps, but instead overlays the desired route onto the camera view of the mobile device. For as little as 9.99 Euro or GBP the online navigation software can be purchased in the Android Market.

"Wikitude Drive revolutionizes mobile navigation. Instead of using abstract maps, the driver simply needs to follow a line projected onto the camera view of his mobile device - it all happens in real time", added Martin Herdina, CEO of Wikitude. Following a line is usually a lot easier than following a route on a rather abstract map that hardly resembles reality. With this innovation, navigation has not only become significantly more intuitive but also a lot safer as the driver never has to take his eyes off the road again.

Besides the route itself the driver has the option of virtually adding thousands of points of interests (POIs) like hotels, restaurants and petrol stations on the display. Updating map or rather routing information has become a thing of the past with Wikitude Drive, as the data is acquired online in real time from leading routing provider NAVTEQ.

    Winner of multiple awards
Wikitude Drive has already been awarded numerous notable prizes including the "Galileo Master 2010" of the European Satellite Navigation Competition, "Global Champion" of the NAVTEQ LBS Challenge and Winner of the "World Summit Award 2010".
