  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2013 - Attend an information session at 6pm on Wed. Oct. 2nd, at Angelina's Pizzeria in Toro Park, Salinas to learn how you can help a child in the foster care system.

Voices for Children CASA which has been serving local foster children for 15 years, trains and manages community volunteers who support and guide children in the foster care system. Formerly known as CASA of Monterey County, Voices for Children's mission is to train and support community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care, upholding the children's rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home. CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) speak up for the children's best interests and build relationships that help restore a child's trust. CASAs also mentor youth over age 18 as they transition out of foster care into independent living.

Voices for Children - CASA is looking for adults, 21 years and older, in particular men and bi-lingual volunteers. The final training of 2013 begins on October 15th.

Founded locally in 1996 as the Monterey County CASA Association, Voices for Children was formed to make sure children placed in foster care receive the care and services they need to be safe and thrive, with the goal of finding the child a permanent home. Monterey County's first CASA was appointed in 1997. Since that time we've trained over 900 community volunteers and served over 1,000 children.

In addition to Voices for Children's direct services to children and youth in the foster care system, the organization provides community education and awareness concerning issues of child abuse, neglect and child welfare policy. Voices for Children is also committed to and strives for public policies that promote child abuse prevention and reforms in the Juvenile Foster Care and social welfare system.
