  • Fort Wayne, IN (1888PressRelease) September 26, 2012 - Military Sealift Command (MSC) is the seagoing replenishment and military transport capability for the United States Armed Forces. Frequently, those voyages take MSC vessels through hostile and dangerous waters. With the HS-18, MSC will have the ability to send clear and intelligible voice messages over 1500 meters. Loud and intelligible communications is critical to determining intent of incoming water-borne targets and de-escalating determination of hostile intent during critical situations.

To solve the growing trend of asymmetrical and often hidden threats, sailors and soldiers alike need the ability to clearly determine intent and escalate force if necessary. Acoustic Hailing Devices are a key component of this escalation of force continuum. Their acoustic range gives operators the ability to communicate at long ranges and deter threats at short ranges. The HyperSpike HS-18 was chosen for this critical role. The HS-18 combines lightweight construction with industry-leading acoustic punch to meet the demanding requirements of Military Sealift Command.

"The HS-18 is the 'clear' choice for long-range acoustic hailing. The HS-18 was chosen to assist the operators with anti-terrorism and force protection technology" said Nathanial Schueth, Global Reseller Manager. "Other features will come in handy, including the integrated picatinny rails for accessories. Users can easily place a high intensity search light, a FLIR system, or video camera in the center of the HS-18, keeping it protected from harsh environmental conditions."

The HS-18 is the smallest, lightest, and clearest AHD in its class. With only 314 in2 of wind loading area, the HS-18 reduces stress on mounting hardware, simultaneously increasing operational longevity and saving fuel for speeding watercraft. To reduce weight, the HS-18 incorporates carbon fiber, increasing rigidity and lowering the total emitter weight to less than 85 lbs. With 156 dB of peak acoustic punch, the HS-18 can communicate over 1500 meters.
