  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) September 26, 2012 - On Friday, October 5, the Secret Rose Theater presents a revival of the wildly popular THE RABBI & THE SHIKSA, a play about scandal, romance, duty, and true friendship. Each time this play has been produced, it has set box office records for the theater.

    SYNOPSIS
Rabbi Jacob Persky, a widower, has been at Temple Judea for many years and is perhaps a little too comfortable in his post. He makes decisions about temple business that aren't his alone to make, and takes positions on issues that cause some members of his congregation to hope to "get" him.

When the Rabbi meets the appealing Theresa, who wants to sell carpet to the temple, he is immediately attracted. There is only one problem - Theresa is not Jewish! She is a "shiksa", with unusual spiritual beliefs the Rabbi cannot begin to understand. Despite themselves, the Rabbi and Theresa become romantically involved. When word spreads about the relationship, things around the temple will never be the same. Neither will the Rabbi, or the "shiksa".

    THE PLAYWRIGHT:
Art Shulman is a veteran playwright with multiple productions of both his full-length and one-act plays. Here is what some prominent writing experts have said about him:
"Art Shulman is a first rate playwright whose work engages and entertains even as it posits profound insights into the nature of women and men. His characters are palpable and fleshy; he has a marvelous ear for dialogue that is cool, crisp, brittle, seductive, and unforgettable." - Richard Walter, Chair, UCLA Graduate Screenwriting program
"Art Shulman is the Neil Simon of the San Fernando Valley." - Ken Rotcop, master writing teacher and best-selling author on screenwriting
