  • (1888PressRelease) February 23, 2011 - Expressway Toyota, a leading Toyota dealer in Dorchester, is pleased to announce that Toyota has sold 8.42 million vehicles globally in 2010, retaining its world's top automaker status for the third year in a row.

Toyota, while dealing with car recalls in one of its most important markets, North America, still managed to sell 8.42 million vehicles in 2010. The Japanese company's global sales, including truck-maker Hino Motors Ltd and small car maker Daihatsu Motor Co, shot up by 8 per cent from 2009. This important increase in Toyota's total sales came as a result of the phenomenal sales performance in China and other Asian countries.

Last year, Toyota managed to sell 1.94 million vehicles in the North American market. Japanese market Toyota sales increased by 10 per cent in 2010 topping the 2.2 million mark this year. This rise in total Toyota sales came as a response to government introduced tax breaks and incentives offered on eco-friendly cars. Toyota sold 315,669 units of its internationally acclaimed hybrid car Prius; with expectations to increase in North America due to President Obama's recent new energy tax incentives proposal on hybrid vehicle purchases.

Toyota's overall overseas sales increased seven per cent to 6.21 million vehicles. Toyota vehicle sales went up by 19% in China and 24% in other Asian nations.
