  • (1888PressRelease) June 14, 2011 - Torrey Hills Technologies, LLC (THT) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded funding from National Science Foundation (NSF) for a coal mine safety project entitled ""SBIR Phase I: Capture and Use of Coal Mine Ventilation Air Methane (VAM)."

    The $149,986 NSF Phase I grant is effective July 1, 2011 and expires December 31, 2011. Torrey Hills Technologies, LLC Scientist Lai Qi said the grant will be utilized for research and development of a new technology intended to improve coal mine safety. The principle of this new technology is to use photo-catalytic oxidation to remove explosive methane gas from coal mines.

"We have great confidence that our technology will help coal mine industry reduce the number of gas explosions significantly, and thus improve the safety of underground coal mine workers."
