The Tony and Renee Marlon Charitable Foundation Partners with Spread the Word Nevada to Bring Literacy Programs to Cambeiro Elementary School

  • Las Vegas, NV-AZ (1888PressRelease) November 30, 2010 - Spread the Word Nevada will adopt its 22nd elementary school at a kick off ceremony on December 10. The $25,000 funding provided by The Tony and Renee Marlon Charitable Foundation will be used for literacy services provided by Spread the Word Nevada. The adoption ceremony will commence at 9:00 a.m. at Arturo Cambeiro Elementary School. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 1.5 million books and promoted reading programs to the low-income children and youth through out Southern Nevada.

    "The Tony and Renee Marlon Foundation aims to better the health and education of children in Southern Nevada. We recognize the importance of literacy as a bedrock for future success. We are delighted to partner with Spread the Word Nevada as they help teach children the love of reading," stated Jeannine Zeller, Board Member.

    Spread the Word Nevada has an umbrella of literacy programs, which will be provided to the 680 students at Cambeiro Elementary School. On a monthly basis, after the adoption ceremony, the Kids to Kids program will distribute books to students, in order to encourage reading and book ownership. The Breakfast with Books program will provide monthly breakfast along with family reading events. Selected students with reading challenges will also have opportunities to work with reading mentors through the Books and Buddies program.

    Who: Spread the Word Nevada partners with The Tony and Renee Marlon Charitable Foundation and Arturo Cambeiro Elementary School to give students their first selection of books to start their home libraries at the adoption ceremony. Every month thereafter, Kids to Kids, the flagship program of Spread the Word Nevada will continue to distribute books to students on a monthly basis.

    What: Photo Op: 22nd School Adoption Kick off Ceremony. Approximately 680 students at Arturo Cambeiro Elementary School will attend the assemblies, followed by an initial distribution of a reading bag and five books for each student. Representatives from The Tony and Renee Marlon Charitable Foundation will be in attendance, as well as, football players from the Las Vegas Locomotives, who will be assisting with book distributions and speaking to students about the importance of reading.
