The Much-anticipated Independent Film Quarterly (IFQ) Film & Webisode Festival Gears Up For A Four-day Film Extravaganza

  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) January 15, 2013 - The eagerly awaited bi-annual IFQ Film & Webisode Festival will from January 30- February 2. 2013. The line-up comprises a selection of the latest independent features, documentaries, a packed shorts program and webisodes from around the world. Screenings will take place exclusively at Raleigh Studios (5300 Melrose Ave. in Hollywood). Upscale club Confidential (424 N. Beverly Drive) will host this year's red carpet opening night party on Wednesday Jan. 30th from 8-11pm.

    A high number of entries were submitted via popular online filmmaker platform Withoutabox. Countries represented include, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Finland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Russia, The UK, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey and the US.

    Festival Director Nicole Holland comments, "We really enjoyed judging and programming the domestic and international films for this year's IFQ; in keeping with all things new, we look forward to bringing you a glimpse of the freshest filmmaking talent of 2013."

    FILM HIGHLIGHTS:

    My Way: Frustrated by years of male-dominated corporate oppression as an AIG analyst on Wall Street, savvy businesswoman Rebekah Starr ditches the dreary and blasts off or LA's Sunset Strip to shoot a music video of her all-girl rock band, The Rebekah Starr Band. Joined by her wild-at-heart Estonian tambourine-playing bandmate, Annika, the two free-wheeling babes set out on their own Thelma and Louise adventure, picking up temp musicians from town to town with spur of the moment concerts, hustling CDs on unsuspecting locals, partying and befriending new fans across America. The survival plan is a no-holds-barred spit-in-the-face to buttoned-down bastards, thanks to a whole lots of rock n'roll!     The Red House: Shelby Gordon (Kate French) inherits a house from grandfather (Walter Olszewski) in remote woods of Copperhead County, she and friends Carissa (Yvette Yates), Lindsey (Cristen Coppen), Chelsea (Kat Sheridan), Travis (Lawrence Adimora) check it out. The road is closed and must hike in. Shelby discovers that her father had a brother Joshua (John Otrin) who was institutionalized when he was young. When her friends start to disappear, Shelby suspects that Joshua is still alive and hiding in the Red House. Also being threatened by a couple of local pot growers, Pink (Gregory Avellone) and his son Will (Ed Ackerman). Is Joshua torturing and killing her friends or is someone else? With the help of Cole Callahan (Brendan Wayne,) the handsome deputy sheriff, she unravels the mystery.

    The Jackal: This is the story of former Canadian Kickboxing Champion Ian Jacklin. I met Ian at a bar in West Los Angeles, he mentioned that he used to be a kick boxer. I myself had a kick boxing fight coming up and wanted to get some pointers. I was surprised to hear about his many legendary exploits and how he had it all on VHS. My two passions in life are sports documentaries and martial arts. So I thought, why not combine the two. Directed by Joseph Mitchell. 12 min. Documentary/Sport/Action/Biography. Canada.

    Stuart Alson, CEO of ITN Distribution will host panels to educate filmmakers on the fundamentals of foreign and domestic distribution, taking place Saturday February 2nd from 2-4pm in the Chaplain Building.
