  • (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2011 - Israel ministry of tourism director-general and representatives of the Yushan Park in Taiwan agree to promote the candidacies of the mountain range and the Dead Sea in the New7Wonders of Nature competition.

Israel and Taiwan are joining forces as the end of the New7Wonders of Nature competition draws near. Officials of Israel's Tourism Ministry and Yushan Park in Taiwan have launched a cooperation to garner votes for both the Dead Sea and Yushan in the contest.

The announcement was made both in Israel and Taiwan. The agreement calls for mutual voting via the Internet sites of the Dead Sea and Yushan, makes it possible to send an SMS vote for Yushan from Israel and for the Dead Sea from Taiwan, and other promotional activities.

Tourism Ministry Director-General Noaz Bar-Nir hosted Taiwan's Chief Representative in Israel Chang Liang-jen on September 25, when the two voted together for the sites. A similar encounter was held in Taiwan, at which the head of Israel's Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan and its cultural attaché, Tzafrir and Simona Halperin, met with local representatives of Yushan Park.

"We are proud of this cooperation agreement with Yushan Park, the highest mountain range in Asia, and hope that the exposure will increase the number of Chinese-speakers who'll vote for the Dead Sea," Bar-Nir said.
"These are two worthy contestants," added Yushan Park director Yu Teng-lang. "The Dead Sea is the lowest place on earth [424 meters below sea level], one of the saltiest seas in the world, and the world's biggest natural spa. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the globe come to it every year to experience its special buoyancy."

The Chinese public is very familiar with the Dead Sea, and in fact, more than 30% of the voters on behalf of the Dead Sea in the New7Wonders competition thus far have come from the Chinese sector. This active Chinese support stems from learning about the Dead Sea and its benefits in the educational system, and from the many visits to the area made by Chinese tourists. What's more, in recent years an artificial salt lake, similar to the Dead Sea, has been built in China.
Yushan Park and the Dead Sea are competing against 26 other sites, including the Grand Canyon in the United States, the Amazon basin in South America, the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador and the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. The voting from around the world continues until November 11, 2011, with the winners to be announced that day.

Every voter can choose up to seven of the 28 finalists in the competition.
You can vote for Yushan Park and the Dead Sea:
    • By SMS from Israel, to the number 2244 with the words "Dead Sea" or "Yushan" (Cost is1₪)
