"It's rewarding to see teens who are empowered and educated about safe driving," said Thomas Walters, Allstate agent with Walters Insurance Agency. "SAVE does so much to promote a healthy and safe lifestyle for students everywhere. We're excited to be able to team with them to focus on safe driving - something that seems so simple, but affects students daily. By educating students on safe driving, we are giving them the tools necessary to prevent senseless injuries and deaths."

In addition to raising general awareness about teen safe driving, many chapters will host rallies, safe driving pledge events, seat belt checks, impaired driving obstacle courses and more throughout the school year.

"We're so grateful for this generous grant from the Allstate Foundation," said Carleen Wray, executive director of SAVE. "SAVE students are so passionate about youth safety issues and teen safe driving, and this grant will allow them to get their messages out in ways they've never been able to before. One of the missions of SAVE is to keep kids safe in their daily lives and activities - this will only help further that mission. "

To kick off SAVE efforts for the 2013-2014 school year, many schools will be celebrating America's Safe Schools Week, Oct. 21-25,and National SAVE Day, Oct. 23, with special events and activities. This includes hosting a compliment day in which every locker will get a note with a compliment on it, handing out confidence cards with self-esteem boosting statements and passing "warm fuzzies," smile-inducing sentiments that must be shared with another person before they cool off.

The Allstate Foundation and SAVE recognize that car crashes are the leading cause of death among teenagers and seek to change that statistic by empowering teen drivers with the knowledge to make better decisions on the road.

About the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere:
SAVE started at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, N.C. in 1989 following the tragic death of a student who was trying to break up a fight at an off-campus party. Students met first to console each other, then as an organization to promote youth safety and to work together to prevent future incidents from occurring. SAVE provides education about the effects and consequences of violence and helps provide safe activities for students, parents and communities.
