  • (1888PressRelease) December 30, 2011 - Festival of Films, a new website that offers licensed free new movies online, recently unveiled its schedule of upcoming releases for the week of Dec. 25, 2011. Available at http://www.Festival-of-Films.com, the week's selection includes a series of free documentaries online profiling luminaries who passed away in 2011, as well as several classic silent films and new independent films. All film content is guaranteed piracy-free, and is optimized for web and mobile viewing.

The week's features of new free movies online begin with "Return to Cranford" on Sunday, Dec. 25. A Masterpiece Theater series that was previously televised on PBS, "Return to Cranford" is a historical drama set during the ascension of the Industrial Revolution and the sweeping societal changes which accompanied it in 1840s rural England. In the program, characters in the small village of Cranford are forced to grapple with the changes industrialization brings to them as well as their own romantic intrigues.

2011 saw the deaths of many luminaries and public figures, from reviled dictators to Hollywood legends. In light of the famous names who passed away this year, Festival of Films will host several free documentaries online profiling Steve Jobs, Muammar Gaddafi, and Elizabeth Taylor on the Dec. 26. Elizabeth Taylor will be further celebrated with the online debut of two of her feature-length films, "The Last Time I Saw Paris," and "Life With Father." The former is a romantic adaptation of a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the latter is a comedy starring a young Taylor as the spunky daughter of an uptight banker.

Celebrating the days that were glorious, magical, and mute, Festival of Films will balance its selection of new free movies online with the release of three silent films on Thursday, Dec. 29. Silent film legends Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton will both be represented with "The Vagabond" and "The General." In "The Vagabond," Charlie Chaplin plays a poor violinist who rescues a girl kidnapped by a band of gypsies; romantic hijinks inevitably ensue. "The General" also features physical comedy and romance, but casts both against the more serious background of the Civil War.

Festival of Films will also debut several free indie films in the coming week. On Dec. 30, Festival of Films will show "Children of Invention," an independent drama about two children who fight to survive on their own after their mother disappears. And on Dec. 31, Festival of Films will bolster its selection of short films online with "ColourBleed," the story of a young, idealistic girl whose fate is sealed when she crosses paths with a scheming, enigmatic old woman.
