  • (1888PressRelease) December 29, 2011 - Singapore International School, today conducted "My Magical Mom" with celebrity vegetarian Chef Asha Khatau. This event was a 'No Flame Recipe Contest' among mothers of SIS students. The first culinary art contest was held last year and owing to its success Singapore International School has now made it their regular Annual event.

"My Magical Mom -No Flame Recipe Contest is unique to SIS and I'm very happy to see mothers so willingly take part in their children's' school activities," says Kaisar Dopaishi, Principal Singapore International School.

The Eleven enthusiastic contestants were divided into groups of 2, the 6th team, ie. one Mom was provided with an assistant from the kitchen staff. Each team was given 3 dishes-1 drink, 1 starter and 1 main course from Mrs. Asha Khatau's cookbooks to prepare. They were given forty-five minutes to prepare all three dishes. Contestants were provided with semi-prepared ingredients such as chopped vegetables, etc. to cut-down the preparation time.

The names of the dishes were given to the contestants along with the respective ingredients. However, they were not given the recipe giving opportunity to display their creativity. The teams could pick up to 2 Magical Ingredients per dish, from a counter named 'Magical Ingredients' to enhance the flavour or to add a new "twist" to their dish.

The teams had to prepare their dishes within 45 minutes. They were provided with complete kitchen setups such as microwave ovens, blenders, induction plates, crockery, etc. to cook their dishes.

Our judge, Mrs. Asha Khatau, decided the "Magical Moms" and ultimately the winners Mrs. Sunaina Deviasani and Mrs. Rinku Trivedi on the basis of presentation and taste of the dishes. VLCC Juhu provided discount or complimentary weight loss/ pampering session vouchers to the contestants. They also provided contestants with beauty and health tips during the time that the judges will be deliberating on the winning team.
