  • (1888PressRelease) November 19, 2010 - PORTLAND, OREGON - Darrel Honigberg, the Service Consultant at Ron Tonkin Acura, has won first place in the first annual National Acura Service Consultant Skills Competition, held by Acura Parts & Service Group.

The competition was created this year to recognize excellence in customer service and technical expertise across Acura's national network of dealerships. There are more than 800 Acura service consultants across the country, in more than 270 Acura dealerships. In order to qualify for the national competition, Honigberg first competed at the dealer level, next at the district level, and then the zone level, which includes Ore., Wash., Idaho, Ariz. and Calif. He then qualified for the national competition in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he won first place.

"This is a real accomplishment," said Ron Tonkin, Founder of Ron Tonkin Family of Dealerships. "It speaks volumes about Darrel's commitment to service and represents the level of care we work hard to provide at all of our Tonkin locations."

The competition was a simulated service drive, which is the process a service consultant goes through with a customer from start to finish, to test the consultant's poise and level of expertise. The competition involved everything from greeting a customer, and learning what services the customer is seeking, to answering questions and responding to complaints.

"This is a good example of how highly trained and dedicated our team is," said Jim Brown, General Manager of Ron Tonkin Acura. "This competition highlights how well they communicate with customers, anticipate a customer's needs and then exceed that customer's expectations."

Darrel has been at the Acura store for over eight years.
