  • (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2013 - Within the enriching networking event held on September, 27th at CEN in Brussels, the stakeholders shared their impressions on the position of the European Additive Manufacturing (AM) standardisation as well as their point of view on the required future activities to strengthen the EU international influence on AM.

    During the event, the WP leaders of SASAM project presented the current outputs achieved. Among others, the standardisation roadmap, the aim of the STAIR AM initiative, and worldwide standardisation actions, including some related running projects, were put on show. Additionally, the Strategic Research Agenda on AM (SRA) and the final report from the Joint Research Centre (JRC) were displayed. All served as a base for discussion within the following round table held with AM stakeholders.

    The previous day the 4th General Assembly of SASAM Project was held. Within it, a wrap-up of the project status and the activities carried out within the different work packages (WP) were shown by the project coordinator and respective WP leaders. Important milestones achieved are the AM document on standardisation requirements and the AM roadmap previously mentioned. Relying on this, the working groups defined (WG) for AM standardisation are already working and setting European AM Standards.

    Martin Schaefer, Head of Siemens AM Portfolio Group and Chairman of the AM Platform states that with all this hard work "future European AM standardisation activities will be strengthened for European standards to influence worldwide".

    This project, supported by the European Commission within NMP-2012-CSA-SA-319167 (G.A II.30.4), has a duration of 18 months. It is led by TNO and 18 partners participate, including great partners such as Siemens, SINTEF or CETIM, several research organisations like SIRRIS (B), University of Loughborough (GB), or INSPIRE (CH), and several national standardisation organisms from The Netherlands (NEN), France (UNM) and Sweden (SIS).
