  • (1888PressRelease) January 17, 2013 - Principal agreements on partnership in the Latin America ATM software protection from all kind of logical threats were achieved between SafenSoft, Russian developer of software IT security solutions, and Kaspersky Lab, leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions. Companies start a joint promotion of the self-service device security solution SafenSoft TPSecure with a Kaspersky Anti-Virus SDK engine to the Latin America market.

The complex solution that includes both companies' technologies is aimed at providing protection for ATMs, POS systems, kiosks and other self-contained, self-service devices against unauthorized data access and software changes by service personnel or hackers. Kaspersky Lab's Anti-Virus engine coupled with SafenSoft system integrity preservation modules provides a solid protection from both the known and "zero day" threats. SafenSoft and Kaspersky Lab are recognized experts in their business areas and have been providing top-notch information security solutions on a global level for several years.

Banks of Latin America have seen many new ATM security threats arise over last few years. Cyber-attacks take up a great part of them. Banking segment of Latin America is a part of international financial community, and that means it's being under attack by all kind of logical threats, including those aimed at ATMs. Some of them originate from this region. For example, Trojan-Spy.Win32.SPSniffer, the famous "Chupacabra" banking trojan that intercepts the data between frontal ATM keyboard and a computer, was first detected in Brazil in 2010. Banks of this region, frequently relying on older and outdated self-serving devices with subpar software protection technology, require a solid and reasonably priced solution capable of working on any hardware.

"The number of malware, such as the Chupacabra Trojan in Brazil, and technology loopholes that allow hackers to steal money from ATMs is on the rise in Latin America. We are thrilled that our award-winning technology will work in conjunction with SafenSoft's to protect customers and financial institutions from these crimes and help restore customer confidence when making financial transactions at ATMs throughout the region," said Abelino Ochoa, general manager for Kaspersky Lab Latin America.

"Latin American banks begin to take ATM software protection seriously, - says SafenSoft CEO Mikhail Kalinichenko. - This issue should have already been considered long time ago, but, sadly, there were no quality products in the region, and hackers have been leaving banks behind all the time. SafenSoft TPSecure appearance in Latin American market will shift the balance of power to the defense side; this is good news for banks and their clients and bad news for cyber criminals. High amount of ATMs in combination with low level of their protection guarantees a high demand for our product".
