  • (1888PressRelease) March 01, 2012 - NASHVILLE, TN - Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced serial to Ethernet and secure device networking solutions, today released firmware version 4.3 for all IOLAN Terminal Servers, Console Servers and Device Servers. This new firmware offers MTU configuration as well as enhanced data logging and Vmodem phone number lookup tables.

    Data logging enhancements
Interruptions during raw TCP/IP sessions between a serial to Ethernet adapter and its remote counterpart, such as a software application or another serial to Ethernet adapter, causes loss of data or serial protocol integrity problems. In order to eliminate this problem, Perle developed a configurable Data Logging feature for raw TCP sessions to the IOLAN Terminal Server.

Perle Data Logging stores serial data received from attached equipment when there is no active TCP session and forwards it once the TCP/IP session has been re-established. No data is lost and protocol integrity is maintained. Users are now also able to manually increase the size of the data logging buffer.

Vmodem phone number lookup table enhancement
The phone number look-up table will now allow the user to enter either an IP address or a host table entry. The host table entry can now specify either an IP address or a fully qualified host name.

    MTU configuration
In many government and corporate networks, Ethernet frames are encapsulated with other information, like VPN tunnelling or encryption. In these networks, the administrator must set all frame sizes on LAN devices to an MTU size smaller than the standard 1500 bytes. Therefore, when the encapsulated information is added to the frame it does not exceed 1500 bytes and can freely traverse through the network. With IOLAN firmware v4.3 users can control the maximum Ethernet MTU frame size in order to operate in these types of networks.
