  • Bethesda-Frederick-Gaithersburg, MD (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2011 - Maxtena Inc. (http://www.Maxtena.com) recently released the Application Note for GPS Passive Patch Antennas. The Application Note highlights the importance of first testing patch antennas tuned at slightly different frequencies in order to determine the correct patch tuning for the application. According to Maxtena, patch antenna tuning kits provide customers with an inexpensive, quick and effective way to determine the correct patch tuning frequency. This saves the customer from potential application performance problems down the road.

Each patch antenna tuning kit includes 10 patches tuned at slightly different frequencies. Since the effect of dielectric loading and edge proximity produces a downward shift of the center frequency, the tuning kit contains patches tuned on the reference ground plane at incrementally higher frequencies than the normal GPS L1 center frequency.

The customer can install different patches on the target device and determine which variation provides optimal performance. At the moment of placing the order for production quantities, the customer can specify the desired nominal frequency determined with the tuning kit. Determining the correct frequency before placing the order will allow the application to perform at its best, resulting in a more satisfied end customer.

The Application Note is available for download on Maxtena's website (GPS Passive Patch Antenna Application Note) next to any of the their patch antenna products. Maxtena also offers a patch tuning kit with each of the patch antennas listed on the website.
