    About The Cables
Renowned for their mega hit "Baby Why" and classic recording "What Kind of World" the legendary Jamaican harmony vocal group, The Cables, burst onto the music scene in 1965 during the SKA music era. The original group, founded by lead vocalist Keble Drummond consisted of tenor, Vincent Stoddart and baritone Elbert Stewart, released their first song "Ska Days" in 1966. It was only 2 more years before they catapulted to stardom when partnering with Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd at the world renowned Studio One recording studios. The Cables' "Baby Why", with its up tempo and lilting melody, so inspired the in studio musicians assembled by Coxsone, that music scholars believe this session led to what is arguably the very first recorded reggae song in history. It was the up tempo bubbling shuffle beat that inspired keyboardist Jackie Mittoo to create the tune for those lyrics which became the foundation for the reggae rhythm. "Baby Why", was released on the Coxsone Studio One label and remained number one on all charts for four weeks. The group splintered in the 70's when Stoddart move to the United States. With the addition of Bobby Dockery, the group has since re-emerged as a quartet performing in various shows worldwide.
