OnPoint Community Credit Union's 2011 Prize for Excellence in Education Recognizes Local Educators for Innovations in the Classroom

  • Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) February 02, 2011 - OnPoint Community Credit Union, the largest credit union in Oregon, announced the details of their 2011 OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education contest last Friday evening at the OnPoint Celebrity Spelling Bee. The second annual contest will award nearly $45,000 to deserving public and private K-12 teachers and their schools, including paying the mortgage for one year of the Educator of the Year, plus provide $5000 to the respective teacher's school for necessary resources and supplies.

    Last year, hundreds of local teachers were nominated by their peers, students, parents and communities for the Prize. Tandy Wolf, a special education teacher from Cedaroak Primary in West Linn, was named Educator of the Year. Wolf received her mortgage paid for one year, plus $5000 for supplies to benefit Cedaroak Primary.

    In addition to the Educator of the Year award, a Community Choice winner will be selected and awarded $1500 cash and receive $1500 for their school. Three finalists will also be selected and will each collect $1500, as well as $1500 for their school. Additionally, five semi-finalists will be awarded $250 each for their school. The winners will be announced live at the Prize for Excellence in Education awards ceremony on May 3, which coincides with National Teachers' Day.

    Nomination forms are now available at www.onpointprize.com and will be accepted until 5:30 PM on March 15, 2011. Anyone 18 or over can nominate an educator, and educators may also nominate themselves. Applicants must be 1) a full-time classroom teacher of grades K-12 in an accredited public, private or charter school located within any county that OnPoint serves (i.e. Benton, Clackamas, Columbia, Deschutes, Lane, Linn, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington, and Yamhill counties in Oregon and Clark and Skamania counties in Washington), and 2) must be teaching full-time at the time of application submission (not as a substitute teacher).
