NBA and BBVA to bring a range of basketball events to fans in Spain this summer

  • (1888PressRelease) June 13, 2011 - The NBA and BBVA, the league’s Official Bank, will provide fans in Spain with a comprehensive schedule of basketball events this summer in cities including Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid, it was announced today. BBVA will serve as the presenting partner of all of the events, which will include a wide range of grassroots basketball programs for fans of all ages and experience levels.

    The summer calendar of events will tip off with the NBA 5 United Tour presented by BBVA, which combines a 5-on-5 tournament with interactive basketball elements for fans and spectators. The event will visit Avenida Maria Cristina in Barcelona on June 11-12 and will include appearances by adidas endorser Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith and the Phoenix Suns Dance Team. The 5 United Tour then will move to Madrid on June 18-19 where adidas endorser 2010-11 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic will join The Energee!, the Official Dance Team of the Milwaukee Bucks, at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

    Along with presenting partner BBVA, marketing partners for the NBA 5 United Tour include adidas, EA SPORTS, Foot Locker, Hannspree, and Kia. Media partners include Sport in Barcelona, and Marca in the rest of Spain.

    In addition to the NBA 5 United Tour presented by BBVA, the series will feature several first-time events in Spain, including Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA, which features clinics, and 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 competitions for children under the ages of 12 and 14 and a Women’s Cup, a 5-on-5 basketball tournament for females ages 10 and over. NBA Fan Zone, a free outdoor event featuring interactive basketball activities, including shooting contests and basketball clinics will also be held in several cities including Bilbao. The final schedule of events will be announced at a later date.
